Hi there, 21. How ya’ doing?
As much as I love make-up and all things beauty-related, I’ll admit that I’m simultaneously super lazy when it comes to applying it. Precise contouring and that perfect winged-eyeliner are never at the top of my priority list on a daily basis. I clearly spend too much of this time covering up the countless blemishes inhabiting my face! But since this was a special occasion, I decided to crack out the big guns and go all-out with my make-up this year. After all, your only 21 once, right?
For a base, I needed something that was going to stand the test of time. I guessed that the birthday festivities would take up the majority of the day leaving me little to no time to stop for touch-ups. I also knew that my face would be papped more times that it probably should for my birthday photos. Because of this I chose my trusty Make Up Forever Ultra HD Stick Foundation in R210. This is the perfect shade for my skin, stays on all day, and makes your skin look flawless in photographs. Opting for this foundation was a no-brainer.
To cover up those pesky blemishes and garish under-eye circles, the Glossier Stretch Concealer was the one. It blends seamlessly into the skin whilst providing light-medium coverage without looking cakey. It works perfectly for counteracting dark circles helping you look more WAY awake than you really are. Lets be real, the excitement of my 21st was clearly too much for me to get some real shut eye.
A natural, glowy blush was a staple, so the Glossier Cloud Paint in ‘Puff’ was the best man for the job. A few small blobs of this on my cheeks helped to give me that fresh, youthful glow that we’re all in search for. I mean c’mon, when your 21 and feeling old you’ll do anything of feel youthful again.
To prevent me from looking like a greased-up turkey on Christmas day, I needed to set those cream products in place. For this I used my trusty Rimmel Clear Complexion Powder in ‘Translucent’. Applying a bit of this all over my face and using a beauty sponge to bake my under-eye area helped keep everything in place from day to late in the evening (even after a bottle of Prosecco …or two!)
For me, the key to a youthful make-up look is good, full brows. To create this, I used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade in ‘Medium Brown’ with a precise, angled brush. I used this to clean up the natural shape of my brows and fill them in. To lock them in place, I brushed a small amount of the Benefit Gimme Brow in ‘Light/Meidum’ through them. Jobs a good’n.
For my eyes, It was only right that I used my all-time favourite eye shadow palette. Like I said, your only 21 once! Charlotte Tilbury’s ‘Dolce Vita’ palette is my absolute favourite for any occasion. Whether it’s day or night, this palette can make you look like a bronzed goddess in a matter of minutes. Since I was going for the bright and youthful look, I didn’t go too heavy with the shadows this time. For this, I used the glittery, gold colour ‘prime’ all over my lid whilst using the glittery brown next to it to widen and brighten my eyes. To finish the eye look I applied a generous coat of Maybelline’s ‘The Falsies’ Mascara; an oldie but a goodie.
As for the rest of my complexion, I needed to make myself look less like an egg and more like a 21 year old human being. To do this, I needed to bronze! I brushed a bit of Too Faced’s ‘Milk Chocolate Soleil’ Bronzer onto the hollows of my cheeks, along my jawline, and around my temples. I don’t know about you but adding a little highlight always helps to get me into the party spirit. For highlight, I lightly tapped some of Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfecter in ‘Moonstone’ onto the high points of my face. Nothing says 21st birthday like some blinding highlighter! To finish up, I went for my favourite Marc Jacob’s lipstick in ‘Slowburn’.
