There is no denying that Burt’s Bees make some of the best natural lip balms on the market. Their formula is so unique to any lip balm formula that I’ve tried before. Their consistency isn’t as thick and creamy as other lip balms, yet they somehow still manage to hydrate your lips for hours on end without reapplication. It’s madness.
One of my favourite things about the balms is the tint that they leave on your lips after application. Specifically the pomegranate balm which always leaves me with that ‘just drank some Kool-Aid’ vibe which I’m all about. So naturally when stumbling across their lipstick range in M&S, I has to exercise some restraint and not pick up every shade! I knew that if their lipsticks were anything like their lip balms, they’d be wondrous. I feel like if a Burt’s Bees lip balm and a lipstick had a baby, this is what would be produced.
I picked up the two shades ‘Sunset Cruise’ and ‘Blush Basin’. The shades are very similar in colour, but Sunset Cruise is slightly warmer with an orange undertone. Blushed Basis is your average ‘your lips but better’ shade with a slight pink hue to it. Both lipsticks are perfect for everyday use, but I prefer wearing Blushed Basin in the day and Sunset Cruise at night as it’s a little bolder than what I’m used to.
The formula of these lipsticks are like butter. They glide onto your lips leaving behind a gorgeous, glossy, and even coat of colour. Admittedly, they’re not the most pigmented lipsticks that I’ve tried, but they are some of the most hydrating. Like their lip balm range, their lipsticks will hydrate your lips for hours to come. Once applied, they dry to a satin finish which I love. They don’t feel like you have any product on your lips and leave them feeling comfortable and soft. I’ve been loving popping these into my handbag when I’m having a minimal make-up day and want a bit of hydration and some colour.
For me, one of the other big appeals of these lipsticks was that, like all Burt’s Bees products, they are 100% natural. Nowadays, I try my best to incorporate natural products into my make-up collection wherever possible. Natural beauty has become more and more important to me as I’ve got older and a little wiser about the harsh chemicals and ingredients in some beauty products. So I’ve made it a habit to check the ingredients listed on the back of a product before purchasing. Thankfully, these lipsticks are packed full of natural, hydrating ingredients that do wonders for keeping your lips intact.
Aside from the dreamy formula, I’m a huge sucker for cute packaging. Their honeycomb lids are adorable; not to mention very apt! I love that they reveal the shade of lipstick underneath the honey comb so that you don’t have to fumble around for ages, flipping over the lipsticks to try and find the shade you want. You can clearly see which shade is which; this makes a world of a difference when you’re getting ready in a rush!
So far I’m loving these lipsticks. They’re the perfect combination of balm and colour and come in some fantastic shades. They’re super versatile and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. I know that I’ll definitely be picking up more shades from the collection.
